The origin of the College of Foreign Languages at Quzhou University goes back to the Foreign Language Section of Quzhou Branch of Zhejiang Normal University, which was set up in 1986. The School consists of 4 departments, namely, English Education Department, Business English Department, College English Department and Second Foreign Language Department. Currently, it offers one BA program (English) and two associate-degree programs (English Education and Business English). There are 494 full-time students in the school. In the recent three years, more than 95% of the students enrolled have been registered to study here and more than 95% of the graduates employed.
The School has 42 full-time faculty and staff, including 38 full-time instructors. Among them are 2 professors, 6 associate professors, and 28 lecturers. Twenty-seven faculty members hold bachelorí»s degrees and 7 teachers are candidates for a BA degree or PhD. Each year 2 international teachers work in the school.
The School pays great attention to research and teaching as well. During the past five years, individual faculty members have published more than 100 research papers and 10 textbooks or translations. At the same time, the faculty has conducted one research project funded by Zhejiang Federation of Social Sciences, 8 research projects funded by Quzhou Federation of Social Sciences or Quzhou Bureau of Science and Technology, 10 research projects and 16 teaching reform programs funded by Quzhou University.
The School is equipped with up-to-date teaching facilities. There are four language labs and one international trade process lab. In addition, 16 companies and schools provide the students with internship opportunities. The School library has a collection of 3,000 books and more than 20 kinds of journals and academic periodicals. Studentsí» organizations such as English Spoken Language Society, Drama Society and English Chorus help to develop studentsí» interest in language learning and improve their abilities in different aspects by organizing series of lectures, competitions and performance. For instance, the Festival of Foreign Languages and Cultures is held annually.
